Prunus sargentii 'JFS-KW58'
Pink
Red, Orange
Unique Features: This is a very hardy tree that is native to northern Japan and Korea. It blooms in late April to early May with dark pink single flowers that are 1’’ to 1 ½’’ across, the early bloom time can limit the amount of fruit produced and any fruit is best left for the birds anyway. The fruit of Sargent cherries is very bitter and requires processing for human consumption. The fall color is a good orange to orange red. When the flowers and foliage are finished the bark puts on the show. The bark is a shiny dark reddish brown that looks like it has been polished and can exfoliate with age. In the winter the sun shining on and through the curls of bark can make the trunk appear to glow. With adequate care the Pink Flair can live for 50 years or more.
