Unique Features: The Fall Gold raspberry is a natural mutation of the red raspberry and it does have thorns. Overall, the yellow fruits have a more mellow sweetness than the red, less of the rasp in the berry. It will need support to keep the canes from bending and touching the ground. If that happens with bramble fruit then a new plant starts, and you soon have a briar patch. The Fall Gold can produce fruit on first and second year canes, but in our area the crop from second year canes is minimal and harder to pick. So if you cut back all of the canes in the winter, then next year the summer/fall fruiting starts earlier and has larger, higher quality berries until the first frost. The berries are ripe when they release easily, and should be picked about twice a week. Netting will help ensure that you enjoy some berries before the birds.
