Populus tremuloides ‘NE Arb’

Unique Features: The Prairie Gold aspen lineage originated from the University of Nebraska and was selected for its improved disease resistance (but not immunity) to the various diseases aspen are prone to at lower altitudes. Relatively short lived, 15 years, at this altitude. Aspens are naturally a transitional tree in forest development and this characteristic can be used in a yard situation. If you plant them with slower growing, longer lasting trees then you will have a replacement for the aspens when they have reached their limit. Aspens are primarily a clonal reproducing tree so if you have enough space then you can leave them on their own and have a self-replenishing Aspen grove though it will have a tendency to set its own boundaries.
