Betula platyphylla ‘Fargo’

Unique Features: This is a narrow pyramidal form of Asian White Birch developed by North Dakota State University. It has cold better hardiness than the species as well as being more tolerant of heavier clay soils. Birches, by their nature, have shallow and wide spread root systems and are adapted to areas with consistent snow cover in the winter so in our area which has neither consistent snow cover nor consistently cold temperatures winter watering is crucial for survival. This birch grows 3’+ per year and the bark exfoliates until it is a solid white, after that the exfoliation is minimal. The Dakota pinnacle has above average to the resistance bronze birch borer and strong winds. Most Dakota Pinnacle birches are grown as low branched trees but may be pruned to either a medium or regular canopy.
