Additional Information:

Unique Features: This is a type of river birch native to the eastern U.S. and it is grown as both a single trunk or multi stemmed tree.  This birch is more tolerant of heavier poor draining soils which helps in our area. The bark starts out a salmon to brown color and exfoliates with age to a light cream color and usually keeps peeling.  This a fast growing tree that is very resistant to the bronze birch borer and has good resistance to the various leaf spot diseases that can affect birches.  Birches evolved in parts of the world with consistent snow cover and consistently cold temperatures neither of which we have in our area.  Success with Birches will be dependent on winter watering.
