Unique Features: This is another variety of Paper Birch.  It was bred to be more resistant the bronze birch borer.  The Renaissance Oasis is also more tolerant of high pH soils typical in our area.  All birches start out with brown bark and Paper birches begin to shed the brown bark when they are 1’’ to 2’’ in diameter exposing the white bark.  Paper birches continue shedding several layers of the white bark each season.  Birches have shallow wide spread root systems and are adapted to environments where there is consistent snow cover and consistently cold temperatures during the winter.  We do not have those conditions in our area so winter watering is necessary for birches.  Planting on an eastern of northern exposure and a large mulched tree planting area will help promote success with birches in our area.
