Unique Features: Blue Fescue is native to Europe and Beyond Blue is a selected variety, cultivar, from the Netherlands. It is a cool season small semi-evergreen clumping grass. In our area we’re on the tan side of semi-evergreen. The narrow blue blades cascade around the edges of the clump while the blades in the center portion of the clump stiffer and more vertical, quill like. Beyond Blue is a cool season grass that starts growing earlier, April, and blooms earlier, mid to late June. The wheat like sterile seed heads extend 3’’ to 6’’ above the center portion of the foliage and start out a blue green color changing to tan. The seed heads are usually trimmed off leaving just the tidy blue mound. This grass will die back in the center after several years. Dividing the clump every 2 to 3 years will avoid this issue.
