Unique Features: The Pink Lemonade is a type of Rabbiteye blueberry, all of which have pinkish immature fruit before it turns blue. The Pink Lemonade doesn’t turn blue, it get pinker. In spring it has pinkish white, bell-shaped flowers followed by green berries. As they mature, the medium sized berries are colored a pinkish red and have a very sweet flavor. Then fruit ripens in July to August, with some berries being produced until frost. It is self-fruitful but a partner will yield more and larger fruit. The Pink Lemonade needs acidic soil, 4.5 to 5.5 pH, so it is best grown in containers where the soil pH can be modified and won’t leach away as quickly. Blueberries have shallow root systems that dry out quickly. Using a pine needle or oak leaf mulch will retain moisture and help lower the pH, amending with sulfur will lower the pH further.
