Unique Features: The Lapins cherry is a self-fertile sweet cherry derived from a cross between the Stella (another self-fertile sweet cherry) and the Van (a self-sterile dark sweet cherry). The Lapins cherry produces large, 1’’, juicy, sweet (sweeter than the Bing cherry) and crisp fruit with a red skin that darkens toward purple as the fruit ripens. The Lapins has white blossoms (sometimes tinged with pink) that resist late frosts. Though the Lapins can produce more than 15 gallons of cherries from a single tree, it will produce even more if there is another Lapins (or Stella) in the vicinity. The Lapins will also pollinate any of the self-sterile sweet cherries. The fruit usually ripens around mid-August and is excellent for fresh eating, canning, preserves, drying and juicing (it is one of the juiciest cherries). Like peaches and plums, Lapins cherries are toxic to dogs, cats and horses.
