Gymnocladus dioicus 'Espresso-JFS'
White, Green
Yellow
Unique Features: The Kentucky Coffeetree is an extremely adaptable and durable tree. It is able to tolerate most types of soil (including our high pH alkaline soil), wet or dry conditions, and temperatures down to -30 degrees. It also has few disease or insect problems. The doubly compound leaves can be 3’ long and 2’ wide, emerging late and dropping early. This variety was propagated from a male tree so there are no seed pods, but that also means smaller flowers which are usually hidden by the large leaves. ‘Gymnocladus’ means ‘naked branches’ and Coffeetrees present a clean and clear silhouette, albeit somewhat stark, against the winter sky and snow. The Espresso will benefit from some early pruning to establish more branching, especially if you are starting with a young tree. This tree is approved by the Town of Parker.
