Unique Features: The Dolgo Crabapple originated from a variety of Siberian Crabapples, and retains that heritage in its excellent cold hardiness. It grows into one of the largest crabapples and has an upright open form with green foliage. The spring flowers are single, white and about ½’’ across. The Dolgo is the fertile parent of the Spring Snow Crabapple so it does produce bright red fruit, 1” to 1 ½’’ in diameter and the red fruit shows well with the yellow fall leaves. The fruit is edible and tasty, albeit tart. The flesh of the Dolgo fruit often has red streaks so it yields pink jellies and sauces. Crabapples, such as the Dolgo, are sometimes included in cider pressings to ‘dry’ the flavor of the cider. The Dolgo has excellent to good disease resistance.
