Malus sargentii ‘Firebird’
White
Yellow
Unique Features: The Firebird Crabapple grows at a slow to moderate rate and is a top grafted onto a 4’ standard trunk. The ‘head’ forms a broad oval shape. With time the Firebird can become wider than it is tall. The dark green leaves change to a yellow gold color in the fall. The spring flowers open from red buds and are profuse and fragrant. The fruit is bright red, 3/8” in diameter, and very persistent. They provide color contrast in the fall, and a red hue over the canopy in the winter. After a few freezes the fruit softens and the sugars condense, providing a real treat for overwintering birds. The Firebird has excellent disease resistance. This tree provides visual appeal in all four seasons, in a small space. All crabapples are approved by the Town of Parker.
