Unique Features: The Red Baron Crabapple was selected for its narrow growth habit and intermediate size which makes it useful as a vertical accent in a planting area, or as a single specimen tree in today’s smaller yards.  The leaves emerge with a noticeable purple color that matures to a bronze green during the growing season. In fall the leaves can change to an array of orange shades. The flowers are blooming while the foliage is emerging.  The flowers start out a deep pink (almost red) and lighten in color over time. This crabapple does produce ½” diameter fruits during the summer, which persist on the tree through the winter to provide some color and food for overwintering birds.  The smaller sized crabs can be used in multiple plantings (if you have the space) to offer a variety of color, flower color, foliage color, fruit color throughout the season.  Approved for Parker.
