Unique Features: Overdam Feather Reed grass is a sterile hybrid of an Asian and a European species of Calamagrostis.  It is another variegated form Feather Reed Grass.  The narrow spiky blades have a green center stripe and start out with creamy (verging on yellow) white margins which fade to white with a pinkish tinge. It is a cool season grass that begins growing in April and looks its best in spring and fall when many other plants are just getting started or beginning to fade.  During the heat of summer Feather Reed grasses ‘take a rest’ and return with a flush when temperatures cool.  The airy flower spikes start shooting up in late spring and have a mauve color maturing into sandy colored seed heads.  Fall brings more of a golden color to the foliage and seed heads.

Overdam is best cut back in March to early April just before it starts growing for the season.  It is deer and rabbit resistant but attracts birds.
