Unique Features: The Karley Rose cultivar is from a different branch of the Pennisetum family and was developed about 20 years ago in Connecticut. It differs from the species by having an earlier and more colorful bloom. Though it is not sterile it is considered non-invasive. This is a warm season grass so doesn’t start growing in the spring until the soil temperature is 50 degrees for several weeks. In summer the dark green ¼’’ arching blades a slightly more upright clump with the flower stalks extending above the foliage mass; similar to a higher pressure fountain spray. Once it starts growing the rose pink blooms show up quickly, June, and continue into August. The blooms mature into light tan seed heads that hold until the first hard freeze dispersing any seeds the birds haven’t consumed. Karley rose is resistant to deer.
