Unique Features: The Himrod originated in 1952 as a cross between the North American Ontario grape and the Thompson seedless grape which has a Middle Eastern heritage. The genetics are 75% vinifera (Old world) and 25% labrusca (New World). The Himrod is entirely seedless (the seeds are too small to be noticed) making it great for raisin production, and it is also used as a fresh desert grape and for juices and wines. The small to medium fruit is held large loose clusters that ripen in late August to early September. The Himrod is technically a white grape but when fully ripe it is golden yellow with a crispy, sweet, honey-like flavor. The Himrod can produce about 10 to 15 pounds of fruit per plant but will need to pruned extensively in the dormant season.
