Unique Features: The Crusader Hawthorn is a trademarked name of the North American native Cockspur Hawthorn. The Crusader is slightly more compact, and is thornless. It grows moderately into a rounded form, and size and shape can both be controlled with pruning if so desired. The smooth leaves are a shiny dark green, which changes to an amber yellow in the fall. The white flowers bloom in clusters in the spring, and though they have a less than desirable fragrance it only lasts for a few weeks. The flowers are followed by an orange-red berry, ½’’ across, which persists into winter if the birds don’t eat it first.
