Unique Features: The Street Keeper honeylocust is a cultivar of a durable and adaptable North American native tree. The Street Keeper is a slimmed down variety made for planting in street strips. All of the Honeylocusts can handle this difficult planting site. The pinnate leaves with tiny leaflets cast a dappled shade that doesn’t impede grass or gardens growing underneath it. The leaflets are small enough that the wind disperses most of them eliminating leaf raking. The stems do stick around and, along with any remaining leaflets, can be cleaned up with a mulching mower. Being later to leaf out and earlier to drop leaves avoids the stresses brought on by late or early freezes. As with any rapidly growing tree it will benefit from regular pruning (3 to 6 years).
