Unique Features: This is a cultivar of a North American native tree, also known as the Basswood. It is just a little narrower than the American Sentry. Lindens are native around the world in temperate climates, and are adaptable to our clay soils. They grow moderately into their various forms. In Early summer all lindens have very fragrant clusters of tiny pale yellow flowers that dangle from a yellow-green modified leaf bract, the bract is more visible than the flowers. The bees will have no trouble finding the flowers; Linden flowers are one of their favorites. The flowers are followed by tiny nutlets. The Japanese beetle is also particularly fond of lindens, which is a growing problem in some areas. Visit the CSU Ext. site and search Japanese beetle – 5.601 for more info on this pest. American lindens are approved by the Town of Parker.
