Unique Features: The Greenspire European Linden grows moderately into narrow, conical form that eventually develops into a broadly pyramidal or teardrop shape. Lindens are native around the world in temperate climates and are adaptable to our clay soil. In early summer they all have very fragrant clusters of tiny pale yellow flowers that dangle from a yellow green modified leaf bract, the bract is more visible than the flowers. The flowers mature to produce tiny nutlets that are taken by larger birds. The flowers of all lindens are attractive to bees, butterflies and humming birds. Japanese beetles are also very fond of the Greenspire lindens, which is a growing problem in some areas. Visit the CSU Extension website and search ‘Japanese beetle – 5.601’ for more information on the Japanese beetle.
