Unique features: The North American native Redmond linden grows moderately into a large broad pyramidal form. Lindens are native around the world in temperate climates, and are adaptable to our clay soils. In early summer they have very fragrant clusters of tiny pale yellow flowers that dangle from a yellow-green modified leaf bract, the bract is more visible than the flowers. The flowers mature into tiny nutlets that are taken by larger birds. The flowers of all lindens are attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Japanese beetles are also very fond lindens, which is a growing problem in some areas. Visit the CSU Extension site and search ‘Japanese beetle – 5.601’ for more information on the Japanese beetle or contact your county extension agent. The Redmond linden is on the Town of Parker Approved species list.
