Unique Features: This is a narrow form of the English oak, originating from a tree found in central Europe and is now widely propagated. As with the regular English oak it grows slowly and has a short, thick trunk, but the branching is somewhat finer and distinctly upswept to produce the columnar form. The inherent strength of the branches helps prevent snow load damage. Though it is usually grown with branches close the ground it can pruned to support a higher canopy over time. Developing a moderate canopy, the distance from the ground to where the branches begin, imparts a more formal look to the tree. The leaves are dark green on the top and blue green underneath and can persist on the tree into or through the winter. It is very slow to produce acorns. Oaks require and reward patience.
