Unique Features: The Urban Pinnacle oak is a cultivar of the native Bur Oak. The regular full sized Bur oak is on the Parker Preferred Species list and it is one of most heat, drought, and pH tolerant of the oaks. The Urban Pinnacle was selected for its very narrow growth form, as compared to the species, making it suitable for street strips or small yards. It grows moderately, fast for an oak, into its narrow form and has the large, bass fiddle shaped leaves of the species. The foliage is also resistant to powdery mildew and anthracnose. The Urban Pinnacle produces acorns (so get ready for squirrels) but they are much smaller than those of the species at only about a ½” in diameter. The bark is thick and corky with deep furrows, which provides winter interest. Oaks require and reward patience.
