Prunus persica 'Elberta'
Pink
Yellow, Orange
Unique Features: This is a Standard or full-sized Peach tree. Pruning will be required for the necessary protections of the fruit, and to maintain the size and shape of the tree to facilitate harvest. In spring it blooms with pink to purple flowers. They are followed by 2-3’’ freestone fruit that are yellow with a reddish blush. The fruit usually ripens in late July to early August, but it will be later in colder climates and higher elevations. It originated in Georgia, U.S.A., around 1875 in the Rumph family orchard. As with most peach trees, the Elberta peach is self-fertile and requires only one tree to produce fruit. However, fruit crops will be larger with another Peach tree within 100’, either the same or a different variety. As with all fruit trees, let them get established (1 year per inch of trunk diameter) before allowing full crops. Even then fruit thinning is advisable.
