Unique Features: The Jack Pear is the more dwarf form of the Calleryana pears, with a proportionately slower growth rate but a potential lifespan of about 50 years. If you do not have the room for a Cleveland Select or an Autumn Blaze, then then this pear is the pear for you. It blooms in early spring, with white flowers in clusters that can cover the tree. There is a chance of a late frost taking out the flowers, but the tree should survive. Unfortunately, the blooms are odiferous, having an ammonia like fragrance, but the cooler temperatures of our springs tend to subdue the aroma.  The fruit is on the larger side, we have had 1” diameter fruit on the trees in our nursery. The shiny dark green foliage is late to change, making this a long season tree. The Jack pear is highly resistant to fire blight.  While not on the Parker Preferred Species list, clients have had it approved.
