Unique Features: The Baby Blue Eyes is a cultivar (cultivated variety) of the blue colored Colorado spruce propagated by a combination of cutting and grafting that better perpetuates the desirable characteristics of the original tree. There is a bit of color variation with the Baby Blue Eyes, the color doesn’t seem as locked in as the slow growth rate. You can’t candle prune or pinch spruce trees but you can lightly tip prune them in the spring to somewhat control size and form as well as increase density. More foliage density means more new shoots in the spring and the new growth has the best color. Baby Blue Eyes grow slow enough that (with proper siting) it will be many years before any pruning is required.
