Picea pungens 'Baby Blue'
Unique Features: The Baby Blue is a cultivar (cultivated variety) of the blue colored Colorado spruce. Unlike most of the many other cultivars that are propagated by a combination of cutting and grafting, the Baby Blue is seed grown from a proprietary source. This makes propagation easier and quicker than but is not as certain as asexual propagation. The good blue grey color is quite consistent, stiff sharp needles make it less attractive to deer and the growth rate can yield a good sized tree in a moderate amount of time. There are many other cultivars of Colorado Spruce (blue or green) with slower growth rates but they all have the potential to live a long time and while the growth rate may slow with time it won’t stop.
