Unique Features: This cultivar of Colorado Blue spruce is one has been around a while (it was found as a chance seedling in 1933) and is often referred to by its patent name Bacheri. It grows intermediately into a broad conical form that is somewhat irregular in character unless pruned occasionally. The foliage emerges a sort of silvery blue and then ages to more of a steel blue and finally the oldest interior needles are more of a blue green. Natural blue spruces tend to turn greener with age. The search for a durable, a consistent blue color is part of the reason there are so many cultivated varieties of Colorado spruce. The stiff sharp needles make the Colorado spruce less attractive to deer.
