Picea pungens 'Blue Diamond'
Unique Features: The Blue Diamond spruce is a cultivated variety of Colorado spruce (there are a lot of these); this one originated in the Netherlands where it is also known as the ‘Christmas Blue’. It grows slower than the species but given enough time it can get big. It falls into the ‘intermediate’ growth range similar to that of the Fat Albert Baby Blue Eyes Colorado spruces so in 40 to 50 years you’ll have a good sized spruce. The form is conical and the foliage is an impressive silvery blue that holds the color well as it ages. The Blue Diamond’s needles are as stiff and sharp as those all Colorado spruces so if you decorate it for Christmas, take care.
