Unique Features: The Fat Albert Spruce is a cultivar of Colorado spruce dating back to 1972. It was named after the cartoon character, out of whimsy rather than descriptively. It has an aspect ratio of about 3:2 and while it grows slower than species it can get large (time X growth rate = size). The foliage color is usually a fairly light powdery blue (though there has been some diverge in color over the last 50 years) that stands out in the landscape especially when used with darker colored plants, either evergreen or deciduous. As with other spruce it may be tip pruned periodically to help control size, influence shape and increase density of branching.
